Hello everyone, I'm Danny Mejia, Mr. World Puerto Rico, and I'm excited to share my beauty with a purpose project, the Renal Council of Puerto Rico. This cause is deeply personal to me, shaped by my sister's battle with kidney disease. My sister faced kidney failure at just two months old. For years, she lived in survival mode, facing countless health complications that often left us all worrying if she would make it through the night. She received her first kidney transplant, but sadly, her body rejected it. After many challenging years on dialysis, she received another kidney at 18, a gift that she continues to cherish to this day. Although I'm 12 years younger and didn't witness all her struggles, I saw her remarkable strength and resilience. I vividly remember the day she got her transplant and how she astounded everyone with her rapid recovery. After my sister's miraculous recovery, my mom dedicated herself to helping other renal patients experience similar miracles through the Renal Council of Puerto Rico. She included all of us in every activity, igniting my passion for this cause. I officially became a volunteer in 2009, visiting dialysis centers around Puerto Rico, bringing joy and Christmas spirit. We traveled to the most remote areas, singing traditional Puerto Rican Christmas songs to remind patients that even in tough times, there's still a light and celebration to be found. In high school, I spent my summers helping with administrative tasks, everything from filing to organizing events. Even while studying abroad in college, I returned home to gather friends for singing visits to hospitals and dialysis centers. I created a series of awareness videos about renal disease and its prevention. It's crucial for our community to know the importance of kidney health. Preventing renal disease starts with awareness. Prevention is life. Together, we can make a difference and support those facing kidney disease. Let's turn the tide on kidney disease. Let's come together to ensure that every life shines brightly because every life deserves a chance to thrive. Every story deserves hope and healing. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Thank you.
